Epoch-making Instruments or Artificial Surrogates? – a PhD project

The PhD project Epoch-making Instruments or Artificial Surrogates? concerns the introduction and reception of electronic musical instruments in Norway before ca 1940. It seeks to illuminate connections between the development of music technology, cultural contexts and different views of electronic musical instruments.
The project started in September 2012, with a duration of three years. It is attached to the Department of Historical Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. Supervisors are Professor Håkon With Andersen and Associate Professor Thomas Brandt.
