THE FRIENDS' ASSOCIATION'S RESTORED CADILLAC RECEIVED A GREAT PRIZE AT ACSN'S OSLOMÝSTRING AT EKEBERGSLETTA 4 MAY 2014
A jury consisting of car enthusiasts makes an assessment of the cars on an aesthetic and holistic basis. The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology 's Cadillac from 1916, which has been restored by Ragnar Skjærstad and Birger Bostad from The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology 's friends, was one of 10 equal prize winners.
The VENNEforeningen's STORE restoration project took place in the period from 2011 to spring 2014
It was all about a Cadillac Type 53, 1916 model, 7 seats, with ONE 5.155 liter V8 engine
Cadillac, Type 53, 1916
The Cadillac Type 53 was the most advanced car of its time, marketed with a V8 engine (the Type 51 was the first w/V8), electric starter and other modern finesse. Cadillac distinguished itself by being the first company to sell V8 engines, and became a very important manufacturer of luxury cars (source: The Royal Automobile Museum). The Type 53 was launched in July 1915. The car has mechanical brakes on two wheels. The wheels are of the "artillery wheel" type with removable rims.
The Association of Friends' websites followed the progress. Apart from work that required special expertise and special equipment, the restoration was based on voluntary efforts from the association of friends.
The Venneforeningen's work on the car started at the end of November 2011 in the museum's premises at Kjelsås, where basic work on the bodywork, with the creation of small dents, priming, sandblasting and sanding took its time
New tires were ordered and the car was missing some expensive fittings such as seats, interior trim and canopy. But as you can see from the pictures at the very top, the project came to fruition.
And the photos directly above clearly show the condition it was in.
Fully restored, the car is used in various events such as the 7-seater race, the brass trip, Sandvigen – Sundvoldenløpet, among many other things.
And then it's nice that the fuel gauge is outdoors and at the back; right next to where the tank is filled.
