# The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology – Exhibitions > Detailed overview of the permanent exhibitions at the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology in Oslo. The museum has over 25 exhibitions and 100 interactive installations spread across 4 floors. One ticket gives access to all exhibitions, Oslo Science Centre and the National Medical Museum. All exhibitions are permanent unless otherwise noted. The exhibition uses the waterwheel and the steam engine to illustrate the transition between renewable and fossil energy sources, and explores nuclear power, solar power, wind power and other emerging energy technologies. Interactive highlights include an oracle about the energy future, a 14-metre fossil wall packed with stories, and an installation where you can try to charge your phone using nothing but muscle power. James Watt's steam engine is among the historical objects on display. Over 250 objects tell the story of telecommunications from the late 1800s to the digital society of today. The exhibition uses artificial intelligence actively: visitors log in with an ID pin and receive a personalised route through the exhibition's objects and stories. Three zones: the Connection Zone (log in with AI), the Collection Zone (gather objects along your personal route) and the Reactor (AI avatars discuss topics based on visitor data). Concept developed in collaboration with Snøhetta. Opened by HRH Crown Prince Haakon in 2022. Traces the development of transport from the earliest vehicles to the present day – railways, trams, motorcycles, cars and aircraft. Highlights include the SAS Caravelle jet aircraft "Finn Viking" (the museum's largest object), Oslo's first electric tram from 1894, a 1949 Volkswagen Beetle (the first imported to Norway after the war), and the aircraft "Nordsjøen" in which Tryggve Gran became the first person to fly across the North Sea in 1914. The model railway (3×8 metres) reopens in spring 2026. Interactive installations let you operate a "stove" that produces oil and gas, take a seat in the drill floor and simulate drilling in the North Sea, and watch the money flow into the Norwegian Government Pension Fund. Personal stories from the industry are shared through film, including accounts of the first oil discovery in 1969, the Alexander Kielland disaster in 1980 and the development of carbon capture technology. The exhibition includes a Studer J37 tape recorder – the same model used by The Beatles when recording Sgt.
