100 years of Cheese Slicer
This year marks 100 years since cabinetmaker Thor Bjørklund in Lillehammer patented the cheese slicer. Two years later, he started production in his own company. Production is still ongoing, and the cheese slicer is perhaps the most famous Norwegian invention.
We take this opportunity to talk about the cheese slicer and slicing cheese into thin slices, about patents and innovation, and about other well-known and perhaps lesser-known examples of Norwegian inventions. Should we perhaps venture into a ranking of the top 10 Norwegian inventions? It has been tried before, and always triggers fun discussions about technology and innovation.
Tonight, conservator and technology and industrial historian, Dag Andreassen, a deep dive into the history of the cheese slicer.
