Kongsberg – 400 years of silver and high technology
Free lecture by Bjørn Ivar Berg, historian and retired researcher from the Norwegian Mining Museum in Kongsberg.
Kongsberg celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2024. Today's high-tech industry in the old mining town has its roots in the knowledge environment created by mining operations. German miners opened the silver mines with knowledge of mining and hydropower 400 years ago. The mining seminar from 1757 is considered a precursor to the Norwegian Institute of Technology. The weapons factory was founded in 1814 as part of an ironworks.
In September, Kongsberg was honored with a Tekna award, among other things, for an ideal collaboration between residents, authorities and technologists.
