Models and miniatures
Hvorfor blir vi så fascinert av modeller? I The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technologys nye utstilling møter du modeller av alle mulige slag. På årets siste «Teknologihistorisk Torsdag» forteller avdelingsleder og prosjektleder Frode Weium om bakgrunnen for utstillingen.
Models are used for teaching, research, testing, advertising and play. They can reduce or enlarge, simplify or beautify. Some models mimic reality as we know it, others attempt to show an imaginary reality. They are used when words, text, drawings or images fall short. Models speak a universal language and serve to visualize what is too complex to understand.
Models have a long tradition at The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology . We find several models among the first objects from the establishment of the museum in 1914, and today the museum has hundreds of models in its collections.
The new exhibition shows models of everything from steam engines to the body's organs, from bridge structures to cars. They will reflect the breadth and the many different exhibitions in the museum. The models tell about how knowledge has been produced, practiced and communicated at our museum for more than a hundred years.
There will of course also be an opportunity to visit the exhibition.
