Target groups

A museum exhibition has the potential to reach multiple target groups. While the exhibition is largely aimed at children, young people, students and families (our core visitors), we also seek to reach others, such as young adults or people with industry experience. The assumption is that most visitors are Norwegian, but the exhibition will also be aimed at foreign visitors in terms of language and content.

We assume that visitors come in different social settings – as part of a school class, or with family or friends – and want to enhance the experience they have in common with others. The exhibition will have several layers that visitors can choose to enter. They can take a stand on current issues, explore how objects work, immerse themselves in stories or be entertained – on their own or in groups.

Communication plans adapted to school classes and curricula will be created . In addition, the exhibition will be accompanied by an extensive activity program .

Examples of activities can be coding courses, game collections, hackathons, film screenings, debates, etc.

The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology has already developed many relevant programs as offerings for school classes and leisure audiences in our creative workshop Teknolab, which is part of our Oslo Science Centre . More will be developed and adapted to the new exhibition and arena. This way, Teknolab and the ICT exhibition can together stimulate new thinking and innovation.

To begin developing ideas and techniques for such a programmable exhibition, we will establish a small experimental zone in the museum's LAB in spring 2020. It will be possible for museum visitors to see inside, and to come in and participate when we open the doors. Here we will place a small selection of historical artifacts, and begin the process of developing a computer system that will control the upcoming exhibition.
