The National Museum Network for the History of Health and Medicine (NMHM) works within older and more recent history of health and medicine. The network was established as a professional and social forum around the year 2000. Since its inception, it has consisted of health and medical history museums or similar institutions, most of them relatively small in size, characterized by the participation of volunteers and often primarily focused around the history of that hospital/ the healthcare organization they are affiliated with.

The network has always had a large spread in the participating institutions' size, geographical affiliation, field of work and working methods. The National Medical Museum is the responsible museum and coordinator for the network, appointed by Archives, Library and Museum Development (ABM), from 2011 the Museums section of the Cultural Council/Directorate of Culture.
