illusion gallery
Can you believe your eyes?
Sometimes you can't believe your own eyes because what you see seems impossible. In The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology 's illusion gallery you can see brand new optical illusions. It seems magical, but it's light and shadow that play tricks on the brain. Or digital installations, for that matter.
The illusions are found both inside the box and in the niches on the outside of the box. Some of them are visible from both the inside and the outside, so don't forget to explore the installation from all angles, to take it all in!
Digital art and "time travel"
Have you ever seen yourself with a time delay that blows you out of proportion? In the Illusion Gallery you will find a digital installation where you see your movements after you have moved on! It can't really be called a full time journey, but a so-called "time remap". The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology has teamed up with digital artist Martin Gautron to give you this and more digital experiences in the gallery. You have to see it for yourself, so come!
Selfie spots
The museum has many selfie spots, such as thermal camera, color mixing, on TV, and more. With "time remap", the museum has expanded with another unique selfie spot. If you film, or take a picture of the effect, you get a memory that you can share with family and friends - or publish on social media. How about using it as a profile picture?
Unique, specially developed illusions
Come and see what you look like from behind, without using an extra mirror! Or how about seeing things that are just projections, but look completely real? Or how about walking on a floor that seems to move? You can do all of this at The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology !
Museum magic
Igor Di Tota is the museum's own magician. He has collaborated with the digital artist Gautron to stage this. See his pictures where up is the same as down. He is also responsible for the development of the gallery as a whole.
In addition to the Illusionsgalleriet, you will find many installations related to light in the museum. Other themes you can explore in Oslo Science Centre this summer, apart from In the light and the historical exhibitions in the museum, are Physical phenomena, Full speed, The body, On TV and Mathematics.
- With the illusion gallery, we can give visitors unique experiences. We are not aware of anyone else in Norway having such installations, so it is a pleasure to be able to offer this, says Igor Di Tota. Come and see mechanical, digital and artistic illusions that trick the brain, he encourages.
Picture gallery
Inside the illusion gallery you will eventually also find pictures with impossible perspectives. It is fascinatingly difficult to understand how they are made!
You may have seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where Voldemort sails through the air. Now you can do the same at The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology ! Here you see Igor Di Tota.
