Treetop cabin
What might a treehouse look like depending on who lives there and what materials are available? Within clear creative frameworks, students should be inventive and custom design a mini treehouse that they will then build.

What happens in this teaching program?
Treetop hut is a guided activity where students work together three by three. Students are allowed to be creative and inventive when they create a treetop hut for a specific user. Through several creative moves, they further develop their ideas before building the treetop hut with the materials that are available. The purpose of this teaching program is to carry out a design process and create a product that is adapted to a defined user.
Description of the lesson:
A supervisor will meet the students at the reception and take the class to the classroom.
Introduction (10 minutes)
- The students sit together in groups of three.
- The students will see different types of treehouses and be introduced to the creative method that will be used throughout the lesson.
Main part (80 min)
- The groups are given different cards that say something about how the treetop hut should be designed, for whom it should be built and what materials must be included.
- The groups build their treetop hut with the available materials
Closing (20 min)
- The students clean and sort materials that can be reused and that are to be thrown away
- The groups set up their cabin in the exhibition area and give a short presentation of their treetop cabin
- The group can take the cabin home if desired
You as a teacher are responsible for the group during the entire visit.
Explainer is responsible for implementing the program. The teacher has overall responsibility for the students. You may be asked to help along the way.
If you would like an invoice, please include the resource number and correct billing address. It is not necessary to bring a computer.
Preparations
One of the teachers in the group approaches the reception. We will then register that you have arrived and you will be allocated a cloakroom space and possibly cabinet for locking up valuables.
Kom til museet senest 10 minutter før programstart. Gi beskjed om dere blir forsinket på tlf. 22 79 60 00. Dersom dere kommer for sent kan læringstilbudet bli forkortet eller avlyst.

- be role models for each other
- be kind to each other and the exhibits
- use consensus
- don't run.
ATTENTION: Everything behind barriers must not be touched.
Then we all have fun and contribute to a good learning experience. If you decide that your group can visit the museum shop, the teacher must be present as long as some of the children are there.
You can eat the packed lunch in different places; in the cafe, at the reception and outside the museum entrance. It is not allowed to eat or drink in the exhibitions.
Kindergartens and schools can pay by cash/card on arrival or bring an invoice.

Preparation:
Our teaching plans do not require preparatory work, but it is always useful to prepare students for a museum visit. This can increase the learning outcomes from the museum activity, and links the classroom to the museum. Here are some wondering questions for the class, which can prepare and engage the students before they learn more about the topic at the museum
Wonder question
-
What do you associate with the word treetop cabin?
-
What other types of cabins are there?
-
What advantages and challenges does a treetop cabin have compared to a regular cabin?
-
What would your dream treehouse look like? Draw and explain.
