STEM
WE ARE OPENING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2025/2026 SCHOOL YEAR
The establishment of talent centers in science is a follow-up to the science strategy "Close to science", which was put forward by the Ministry of Education in the autumn of 2015. The Talent Centre is an offer for students in grades 5 to 10 in primary school.
The Talent Centre in science takes as its starting point theoretical science subjects such as mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology, and integrates them with technology development, prototyping and practical use of theory. During the school year, The Talent Centre
About the program
The training at the talent centre is training given in accordance with the Education Act with regulations, and is in accordance with the Curriculum Agency for Knowledge Promotion. The school is responsible for the students' individual assessment and for the students' safety. The training at the knowledge centers is a way of adapting the training for the individual student. Costs incurred by students are covered by Oslo Science Centre .
Frames
The teaching takes place during school hours, at Oslo Science Centre . The teaching offer consists of four sessions during the school year, and each session lasts 2-3 days. The groups are put together by age level.
The dates for the gatherings will be sent out together with information about the recording, at the end of May.
Pupils who get a place at the talent centre will be away from ordinary teaching on certain days. As participation at the talent centre is regulated as adapted education under the Education Act, students will not be excused for participation, and do not need to apply for leave from their home school to participate.
Information about the application process
The application process is fully digital and requires the submission of information from the teacher, guardian(s) and pupil.
As the application must contain a teacher's form and letter of recommendation from the teacher, the teacher must be involved in the application process and informed that students are applying. In order to be granted a place at the talent centre the application and permission for participation must be approved by the teacher and the school management, as teaching at the talent centre takes place during school hours.
We ask all subject teachers to have a chat with the students in question. Use the document " What characterizes students with great learning potential " as a tool to find students with great learning potential.
It is important to emphasize that students who attend the talent centre will miss out on regular teaching at their home school when they attend assemblies. Therefore, it is important that the school, in consultation with parents and pupils, arranges compensatory measures for lessons the pupil may miss.
We do not recommend students to both take part in a forced race in a subject in addition to taking part in the annual unit at the talent centre . We know from experience that this can be too much of a burden for most students.
