Oslo's funniest
Gingerbread town
Join us and create Oslo's funniest gingerbread town! Åpent Bakeri and The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology invite you to build and decorate your own gingerbread house, whether it's your childhood home, the tram, the football pitch or the Opera House. André Løvaas from Bakermesterskapet has been inspired by the industry along the Akerselva River and our own waterwheel. Crooked roofs, strange extensions and over-decorated facades are just fun – all gingerbread creations are welcome in our city.
Deliver your gingerbread house to The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology from November 25 to December 17. On Sunday, December 21, a jury with knowledge and good humor will choose three winners, the most imaginative, the most charming gingerbread house and the funniest allotment garden hut. The prize is a family ticket to the museum and a delicious lunch at Åpent Bakeri. Here's how ↓
1 | Build your gingerbread house (max 80 x 80 cm) |
2 | Deliver the house to the museum |
3 | Register your gingerbread house and contact information in the foyer. |
4 | Place your gingerbread house in the gingerbread town |
André's Gingerbread Dough
Christmas is about sharing, and the best part of baking is tasting. That's why André Løvaas wants to share his tasty gingerbread recipe with you. The recipe is easy to make, smells lovely of syrup, cinnamon and cloves and produces a soft and pliable dough that is easy to roll out. Perfect when you want to fill your home with warmth, laughter and a real Christmas spirit. Time to mix ↓
For the batter you need the following ingredients, cloves (11 g), a dash of ginger (12 g), cinnamon (12 g), sugar (480 g), a splash of water (30 g), velvety-soft whipped cream (180 g), delicious dark syrup (180 g), good eggs with sunny yellow yolks (62 g), melted butter (300 g), a little baking soda (4 g) and plenty of wheat flour (1 kg). Time for dough ↓
Mix water, heavy cream, dark syrup and eggs in your favorite baking dish. Then mix cloves, ginger, cinnamon and sugar together with the mixture you started with. Then heat the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat until everything has melted. Slowly fold the hot butter into the mixture. Take a well-deserved break and cool the mixture to 30°C. Finally, mix the wheat flour with baking soda and stir in the flour little by little until you get a smooth and even dough. Let the dough rest in the refrigerator overnight. Bake at 180°C for eight minutes for delicious and crispy gingerbread cookies.
