The museum hunt: MILK CARTONS IN HALVORSEN'S WORKSHOP

You are now looking into Halvorsen's workshop. The workshop is a well-preserved time capsule; a unique example of a private fine mechanical workshop. The workshop was in operation from 1900? until the 1950s.

The museum's friends' association moved the workshop in its entirety to the museum in 2009. At that time it had been almost untouched in a basement at Hasle since 1952.

Hans Halvorsen repaired and produced tools and machine parts.

He also repaired bicycles, made shower heads and parts for gramophones. The workshop initially consisted of two lathes, grinding devices, hand tools, a milling machine, a self-made drilling machine, a mandrel press and a cold saw. Halvorsen wrote in his diary about long working days. Ten hours were not unusual, and often he also worked on Sundays. The food purchases were also accurately noted, and the menu largely consisted of herring, kneipp bread, key cheese and coffee

Halvorsen was a man of order, everything had to have its fixed place.

He reused e.g. milk cartons, bottles, metal tins and matchboxes to store things in. If you look carefully, you will be able to find several containers that originally contained food and drink.

Task:
Can you find a bottle marked with wort beer, and metal cans marked with peas, fish balls, Wiener sausages or broad beans?
