The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology 's object collection consists of over 80,000 objects related to technology, industry and the history of science. In addition, the museum has a collection of around 10,000 objects related to medical history.
The objects are mainly from the industrial age in Norway, that is from 1850 to the present day, although the museum also has several objects from pre-industrial times.
The collection contains a representative selection of objects that document the industrialization of Norway and technological development in modern times.
The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology was founded during the great anniversary exhibition at Frogner in 1914. Many of the first objects collected at the museum originate precisely from this exhibition.
The museum's collection covers a wide range of disciplines. We have large collections related to, among other things, electricity and hydropower development, mechanical industry, transport, communication, textile industry, chemical industry and natural sciences.
In recent times, the museum has also documented modern industry such as the oil industry and the plastics industry through the collection of objects.
The medical collection has a majority of objects from the medical development in the period from 1950 to the present day. In addition, there are several special collections, including those related to ophthalmology, gynecology and paediatrics.
