The Moon Landing and The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology

In the summer of 2019, it will be 50 years since the moon landing. The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology marks the anniversary with a large interactive exhibition where you can take a seat in a full-scale Apollo 11, control the lunar lander and immerse yourself in the fantastic photos and films from the trip. You can also relive the moonlit night as "everyone" in Norway did on TV, guided by Erik Tandberg. The exhibition is empty in 2019.

Space travel and The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology

20 July 1969 (21 July Norwegian time) 1969 Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. This is one of the great moments in the history of technology and science. The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology has previously had a number of markings, the earliest in 1970 when the museum exhibited a moon rock. For a larger 25-year anniversary exhibition, the museum was able to borrow several original objects from the National Air And Space museum, primarily the original Gemini X.

Astronomy at The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology today

Astronomy remains an important theme for The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology , today, as an offering in the science centre. The planetarium is one of our most popular offerings, and interactive installations related to astronomy are in the science centre. Several new installations have also been commissioned for the Moon Landing Exhibition, which will become a permanent part of the offering in Oslo Science Centre at The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology after the exhibition.

Erik Tandberg's private collections

The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology has in recent years also received Erik Tandberg's private archives and collections, given to the museum by Tandberg, who was the museum's chairman for many years. Erik Tandberg is also the man most associated with the moon landing in this country, as he was the space expert who guided the Norwegian people through the events as a commentator for a TV broadcast that many followed minute by minute, and remember well almost 50 years later. Erik Tandberg has been a consultant for the exhibition and parts of the collections and archive material can be seen in the exhibition.
