CLIMATE2+

Three things to consider

The three items from the museum's collections have been chosen to inspire discussion of various topics related to climate;

an industrial loom, a supercomputer and malaria mosquitoes.

With the topics of the clothing industry, weather forecasting, and global health, we invite you into discussions about the greatest challenge of our time, the climate crisis. The things do not stand alone, they are surrounded by images, texts, and other things that place them in a larger context, with multiple layers of narratives about the climate crisis.

Here you see them outside Klima2+:

Industrial fabrics

This one, from Hjula weaving mill, was used in the 1850s-1920s.

It will be placed in the context of industrial history from the museum's immediate surroundings, the Akerselva River. Using industrial weaving as a starting point, we can highlight how the textile industry and consumption have become a major burden on the climate.

The supercomputer was used at NTH/SINTEF between 1986-1992. It was used, among other things, to calculate the weather. The weather data that it processed brings the topic of climate change to the forefront.

Malaria mosquito

New diseases may develop in connection with temperature and climate changes. In relation to mosquitoes, it will be relevant to look more closely at the development of vaccines and the history of public health.
