Visual notes from a changing environment
By Lila Zotou
This photographic work has its origins in the urban landscape on the outskirts of Oslo, around the enormous area that is Groruddalen.
It includes interior and exterior visual notes from places that represent a modern urban planning and a communal lifestyle.
The artist wants to show that these housing estates are large-scale development projects that do not welcome individual change, and that have the potential to alienate people from nature and eventually from each other. The sterile landscapes convey a sense of inaccessibility to any form of long-term engagement, and that they are only meant to be decorated and observed.
With this ongoing series, the artist's portrait of an area is also intended to provoke a discussion, with a goal of reintegrating and balancing people in their environments.
