Til sammen består samlingene av omkring 2,65 millioner fotografier som dokumenterer norsk teknologisk, naturvitenskapelig og industriell virksomhet fra midten av 1800-tallet og frem til i dag, i tillegg til annet kulturhistorisk fotografi. Museet har også film- og lydmateriale knyttet til disse fagområdene.
The collection is partly built up through gifts from private individuals and partners, and partly generated at the museum through documentation projects and exhibitions.

Alle digitaliserte bilder kan brukes gratis til ethvert formål i den oppløsningen som kan lastes ned fra Digitalt Museum eller museets egne nettsider. Bruker står ansvarlig for å overholde forpliktelser som personvern og fotografens rett til respektfull gjengivelse.
All photos must be credited with the photographer's name and owning institution, as follows:

In the event of non-crediting, NOK 1,000 + VAT will be invoiced. per picture.
If you want a higher resolution, we are happy to digitize. Digitization and other image processing are invoiced for each hour started at NOK 850 (+VAT).
Questions about the photo collections?
The museum has many photographs that have not been digitized. You can see these in the library's reading room.
For large/comprehensive assignments, NOK 1,000 (+VAT) is invoiced for each hour started.
